Dental Implants

Surgical Procedures

Our experienced periodontal specialist is trained in the latest, most effective surgical techniques to minimize discomfort when your care involves periodontal surgery, tooth extraction, bone grafting, implant placement, or biopsy.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease Therapy

If you are experiencing red or swollen gums that may be tender or painful and bleed easily, you may have gum disease. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent disease progression and promote oral and systemic health. Our office offers non-surgical and surgical treatment options for individuals who have experienced gum recession and/or bone loss around their teeth. Once treated, we partner with your dentist to provide individualized plans for periodontal maintenance cleanings to monitor and manage this chronic disease.

Soft Tissue (Gum) Grafting

Gum Grafting is a surgical procedure to cover exposed roots due to recession or augment thin tissue around teeth and dental implants. Gum recession can leave your teeth more susceptible to plaque or cavities, and thin tissue around dental implants can be more prone to developing inflammation. Various methods can be used including donor tissue and minimally invasive techniques to provide patients with more options and minimize discomfort.

Gingival (Gum) Contouring

This procedure, also called Crown Lengthening, may be a solution to improve your smile if you have excess gum tissue. It may also be recommended by your dentist to provide more length to the teeth when planning dental crowns and veneers.

Sedation Dentistry

Let our team help manage your dental anxiety through nitrous oxide sedation. Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, provides a general sense of well-being and ease for the duration of your procedure. The effects wear off within minutes of stopping nasal inhalation, so you can quickly return to your day after your procedure.

Oral Sedation

Depending on the total dose given, oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate. For oral sedation, typically the patient takes a pill orally about an hour before their procedure. The pill will make the patient drowsy, but they will still be awake. A larger dose may be given to produce moderate sedation. Some people become groggy enough from moderate oral sedation to actually fall asleep during the procedure. They usually can, though, be easily awakened.

Dr. Shayla Steeds

Dr. Steeds graduated from Bemidji State University Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance in 2008. Dr. Steeds then took a more non-traditional route to dental school, first working as a phlebotomist at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, MN and later at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis where she developed her interest in healthcare. She then took on a role as a Cardiovascular Monitoring Technician based at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis before earning her D.D.S. degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
